The Sherman Jumbo M4A3E2 assault tank was a variant of the M4A3 with additional armor welded onto the chassis and T-23 turret. It was developed in response to the need for a battle tank capable of resisting German anti-tank weapons while attacking static fortified points at the Normand bocage. But the 250 units manufactured between June and July 1944 started to arrive in Normandy too late. Although they did enter combat in the liberation of France, the Battle of the Bulge and the fall of the Reich. Most of them were armed with the general-purpose and medium velocity 75 mm gun. There were also some units that mounted the high-speed 76 mm cannon best suited to combat German panzers.
