The Jagdpanzer IV, also known as ‘the Guderian Duck’ was a 26-ton tank hunter that mounted a 7.5-cm gun on the chassis of a Panzer IV. There were two models. The first one, Jagdpanzer IV/48, was armed with a 7.5-cm-PaK 39 L/4 gun and entered combat during the Battle of Normandy. In 1944, 780 units were built at the Vomag factory. The second model, which replaced the previous one, was the Jagdpanzer IV/70 Lang which was equipped with a 7.5-cm-StuK 42 L/70, the same gun as the Panther. It entered combat in the Battle of the Bulge and 930 units were built between 1944 and 1945 also in Vomag. There was also a variant of the latter called the Jagdpanzer IV/70 (A) manufactured by Alkett whose superstructure was 40 cm higher than that of the previous models. 278 were manufactured between 1944 and 1945.
