The Mk-I/2 was the British version of the popular 40 mm automatic-firing anti-aircraft gun. The American version was outwardly very similar to the British version, varying mainly in production methods rather than in the actual gun design. This excellent gun was originally developed by the Swedish Bofors factory, whose patent was sold to numerous nations during the 1930s. It was thus the most widespread anti-aircraft weapon during World War II, being used by many of the contenders: Great Britain, United States, France, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Norway, Finland, Germany, Japan…. Several naval versions were also developed for anti-aircraft protection. Units of this gun can still be found today in service in some armies.
