The Jeep Willys MB has been the most successful military lightweight tactical vehicle with off-road capability in history. Its small size, reduced weight, 4×4 performance, extreme toughness in the face of the elements and practical design quickly made it the perfect utility vehicle for the Allies, who used it on all fronts and armies from its development in 1941 until the end of the war. Designed to meet the American Army’s need for a command and reconnaissance vehicle, it was also used to transport support weapons, cargo trailers and light artillery pieces. About 600,000 units were manufactured until 1945.
