The Steyr 1500 A heavy off-road vehicle was used as a platform for mounting various anti-aircraft machine guns. This was the case with the triple mounts equipped with 1.5-cm MG 151/15 heavy machine guns and their larger counterparts, the 2-cm MG 151/20 light cannons—weapons that originated with the Luftwaffe and were used with great success on numerous fighter and bomber aircraft beginning in 1940. Starting in mid-1944, as there was a large surplus of these weapons, many of them were used in triple anti-aircraft mounts, installed on all types of vehicles, including the Steyr 1500 A, providing considerable firepower against low-altitude air attacks as well as ground targets
